Rookie phenom Victor Wembanyama has had the lights on him ever since he was rumored to be entering the 2023 Draft. The 7'4" top pick will now have the opportunity to play under the brightest lights of all, Madison Square Garden. The world's most famous arena has had plenty of unforgettable performances, including Michael Jordan's "double-nickel," Carmelo Anthony's 62 point masterpiece, Reggie Miller's infamous eight points in nine seconds, among many others. The Mecca is a place where stars are born, and the hype that surrounds Victor Wembanyama early on may suggest that this game could be the beginning of a dominant reign in the association.

Knicks Center, Mitchell Robinson, will have the defensive assignment tonight in what will be his biggest challenge yet since coming into the league in 2018. However, according to the Knicks big man, slowing down Wembanyama may attribute to a similar gameplan for versatile centers.

According to Kristian Winfield of the NY Daily News, he writes about Robinson's plan of attack tonight vs. Wemby:

"I'm going to play him just like he's one of those like Kristaps Porzingis, kind of players. Who else plays like that? Bol Bol? Just got to mix them two together. I kind of got a feel for how it should go."

Through seven games this season, Wembanyama is averaging 19.4 PPG, 8.4 RPG, and 2.6 BPG. He is absolutely as advertised and even exploded for 38 points and ten boards vs the Suns on Nov. 2. Many around the league never questioned Wembanyama's talent, but may have questioned how he would adjust to the speed and quickness that the NBA game entails. It may have only taken just a game or two, but Victor Wembanyama is fastracking his progress and showing that he is in fact, a generational talent.

Mitchell Robinson is off to a dominant start to the new campaign and has been one of the most effective offensive rebounders across the league. The seven footer is the longest tenured Knick, and although his offensive production has been underwhelming for the majority of his career, his ability to rebound and create second chance points cannot be replicated. This is a matchup that I am very excited to watch and should be the toughest matchup yet for Victor Wembanyama.

The Spurs and Knicks tip off at 7:30 PM EST on ESPN.
